12 Weeks!

I can't believe how big my little boy is getting!  We have had a good couple of weeks since I last updated about Elliot's progress.  We had a rough couple of weeks while Elliot was still sick, going to the doctor every day for several days, and then still a lot of worrying about him in the night time when he would cough so hard.  He was still sleeping a pretty good stretch for a 2 month old, but he was waking up much more often than normal for him.  In an average 8 hour night, he would wake up twice to eat and twice because of coughing.  Poor sweetie.  He slept with a propped up mattress for several weeks, and has now been on a flat mattress again for about a week.  Elliot is feeling all the way better now, and the way we know that is because he is sleeping through the night again!  The past about 4 or 5 days he has slept 9 hours straight - it has been blissful!  The first couple of nights I would still get up to check on him, but I'm getting better at sleeping in longer stretches myself again.  We're so happy he's a good sleeper at night - if only he would do the same during the day!

Elliot has basically mastered control of his neck by now.  He hardly ever bobbles, and when he does nowadays it's usually because he is leaning so far forward to look at something he gets off balance.  He still hates tummy time, but will tolerate it in longer stretches.  He is great at sitting in his bumbo and loves hanging out there when he's not too tired.  He has recently become interested in watching the TV and the computer screens.  A few days ago we started having him watch some early learning DVDs.  He loves watching the screen and seeing all the colors and shapes and listening to the music.  It will be fun to see if he will be able to recognize the words in the coming months.

El is a big babbler now and loves to talk to us.  He has definitely become more vocal in the most recent weeks.  He is also showing more of his personality, and has made his stubbornness clear since he is refusing any kind of bottle at the moment.  He is very interactive with the toys that hang from his play mat, and in the past several days he has even started kicking the toys with his feet!  He has great control over his right hand and hasn't quite caught on to the idea yet that he has a left hand, but he's getting better with it.  He will grip a rattle toy when we offer it to him but isn't that interested in it yet.  Elliot spends most of the day with his right arm raised in the air like he's holding the olympic torch.  It is quite adorable.  We like to give him fist bumps because of that.  Elliot has also started really smacking his lips when he is getting hungry - and he is LOUD.  It is pretty hilarious.  The past three days he has really started to find his feet and loves to hold his feet and butt up in the air - it makes diaper changing harder because this boy is so strong!  One of my favorite developments of the past week is he LOVES mirrors.  It took him a while to figure out what he was looking at, but when we stand in front of a mirror now he almost immediately starts smiling when he looks at Derek or I in the mirror.  Today when we stood in front of the mirror he looked directly at himself and was all smiles!

Elliot LOVES LOVES LOVES music.  It was destined to be like that anyway, but I have been amazed at how much he really gets into it!  He really enjoys it when we sing to him during diaper changing time and randomly throughout the day, but this past week at church was really something.  During the opening song of sacrament meeting he was just singing along and having a ball!  You could tell he was really enjoying himself.  He did that for the other songs he was awake for, and he also did it during the songs in relief society.  One of my friends was holding him for the first song in relief society and afterwards she looked at me and couldn't believe how much fun he had had!  We were singing patriotic songs and he really loved it.  It is so fun for me to watch him and see his love for music.  The past little while he has really started paying attention to his musical mobile, too.  He loves it!

It is so fun to be with him every day while he's learning so many new things!  I love that boy!
